Par 3 Tournament

The Woodford Club’s Par 3 Tournament was held July 25th and it brought out some great talent to the course.

Our winners included Dave McGohon & John Perkins with a low gross of 47. Our other two winners with a low net of 41 were Gary Gillis & Terry Wanless. These four golfers have a seasoned history here at the club, and are always ready to take their skills to the next level.

McGohon’s parents were charter members at the club, and he can remember playing at the golf course on opening day.

“I grew up out there…” McGohon said. “This golf course will always be my favorite place to be.”

He chalks up their tournament win to having a good day and hitting the ball well. He’s played in plenty of tournaments out here too.

“My claim to fame is that I’m the only person to win the Junior Club Championship, Regular Club Championship, Senior Club Championship, and last year the Super Club Championship. Add it up and I’ve been here a long time,” McGohon said.

A lot of these winners said it’s been great to see the improvements at the club and all of the increased activity here.

For Gary Gillis, winning this tournament is a great way to celebrate his 50th year being a member at the club. He said his father-in-law was one of the original members as well. He often plays in tournaments at The Woodford Club, but he said it was great to win with their low net.

“Terry Wanless is one of my regulars in our group that plays a few days per week,” Gillis said. “We enjoy playing together and I’m thankful he asked me to join him at the Par 3 outing.”

Wanless has been a member of The Woodford Club for ten years, and said he loves playing at the club because it’s challenging but fair.

“It was a very unexpected win. We just played very well as a team,” Wanless said. “We play regularly together during the week, but this was the first time we have teamed together for a tournament event.”

He said playing in these events are one of the perks of having a membership.

While these players were winners out on the course this past week, they’re winners off the course as well. Being a part of The Woodford Club is more than just playing the sport, but forming connections, friendships, and memories that will last a lifetime!

Congratulations!
